GOTHAM – ‘THE FEARSOME DOCTOR CRANE’ AND ‘THE SCARECROW’
Two pretty enjoyable, but not great episodes, focusing primarily on a Julian Sand’s Doctor Crane killing phobics. All the usual, predictable elements are there: Harvey’s great, Jim’s getting better (thanks to Morena Baccarin’s Dr. Thompkins), Edward is weird but fun, Penguin’s also fun but often tonally separate from the rest of the show, Bruce’s stuff is a bit dull and Fish? Fish is as bad as normal, stuck in a warehouse with extras from Prison Break…
THE FLASH – ‘ROGUE TIME’ AND ‘TRICKSTERS’
After the rather fantastic episode, ‘Out of Time’, ‘Rogue Time’ suffers slightly by comparison. After the opening which, due to the wonders of time travel, undoes much of what made the previous episode so good, the rest of the episode is still enjoyable. Captain Cold and Heat Wave return, this time with Cold’s sister, Lisa, AKA, the Golden Glider in tow. They kidnap Cisco’s brother in order to force Cisco to make him replace their last weaponry. He also makes an original weapon for Golden Glider. She likes gold. so Cisco makes her a weapon that shoots… gold.
‘Tricksters’ can be just as silly, but is a lot of fun. in the show, we already have actor John Wesley Shipp, the 90’s TV Flash, as Barry’s dad and now we have the former best Joker ever*, Mark Hamill, playing the trickster, a character he also played in the 90’s show.
The story with the Trickster (who is a poor man’s Joker to be sure) is the primary focus of the episode, but we also get more time travel, featuring more detail on the mysterious Reverse-Flash and Harrison Wells.
Two weeks ago, when the Flash time-travelled, only his consciousness went back in time but this week’s episode saw characters physically time-travel. I hope the writers and producers are going to explain this!
‘ROGUE TIME’ 3/5
*without a doubt!
